Now in your everyday makeup routine, you have your foundation, concealer, powder, bronzer, highlighter, eyebrow pencil/powder/pomade, lippy, but there are other essentials to add to your kit. You may have heard of them before and thought "How do I use it?", I sometimes find my self asking these questions, especially since so many new things come out all the time.
Are you ready for the list? Okay, here it is:
1. Primer
2. Face Oils
3. Setting Spray
4. CC & BB Creams
5. Translucent Loose Powder
6. Colour Correctors
7. Cream Contouring/Highlighting/Blush
8. Fix +
9. Mixing Mediums
10. Glitter Glues
11. Banana Powder

Now, the get down.
1. Primer
Primers are used to increase longevity of your foundation, smooth your skin's surface and even out your skin tone. This is an essential to have in your kit and there are in expensive options available from Priceline (Australis, NYX & L'Oreal have a good range). I recommend waiting about 3 minutes for it to settle into your skin before applying foundation.
2. Face Oils
This is not required, purely based on personal preference and skin care routine. Face oils similar to primers can smooth your skin and the oil will help blend out foundation and create a natural base. Unlike primers, oils are a little bit more pricey but a good place to look for them are in Myer, David Jones, Mecca or Sephora.
3. Setting Spray
I believe setting sprays are priority in a kit, they settle powders, and depending which setting spray you purchase, they increase the longevity of your makeup and help keep the makeup on your face instead of on your clothes.
4. CC & BB Creams
CC Creams are great for using underneath your foundation, as they are mainly used to 'Colour Correct' your skin tone. For example, any redness in your skin, you can use a green CC Cream, or if you have bruises or dark circles under your eyes, a yellow CC Cream will help counter-act that.
BB Creams are similar to tinted moisturisers, but they have a bit more coverage and added skin care benefits such as SPF or anti-oxidants. I would still continue with your normal skin care routine prior to using a BB Cream especially sunscreen.
5. Translucent Loose Powder
They are similar to Pressed Powders but they are lighter and great for cleaning up contours or baking under the eye. Not essential, but great if you are wanting to take your makeup game to the next level.
6. Colour Correctors
Exactly like CC Creams they counteract any imperfections, redness, dark circles, normalize yellow skin. But they are higher coverage and therefore last longer. Depending on which foundation you use, Colour Correctors are not needed, like if you have a high coverage foundation, it will most likely cover your imperfections. If not, concealer will help with adding coverage or correcting areas of your skin. This is a trial and error situation with your foundation, as they will all react differently.
7. Cream Contouring/Highlighting/Blush
These products are great for a natural look. So if you feel your foundation may be too heavy or cakey then learning how to cream contour/highlight/blush could become your bestfriend. This technique is best used if you have dry skin as cream products are quite oily.
8. Fix +
You may have heard beauty influencers use this term before. Please keep in mind that this is not a setting spray. It says on the bottle Prep + Prime so it is used to prep or prime your face, use it with a serum/cream based primer for better application.
9. Mixing Mediums
This is part of every Makeup Artists kit and mainly used to turn loose pigments into a more opaque eyeshadow and apply better. It can also be used to make high coverage foundations more lightweight.
10. Glitter Glues
Love playing with glitter, but not sure why it's not sticking to your eyelids? Glitter Glue is your best friend! It creates a sticky surface for the glitter to adhere to when used with a flat shade brush. Concealer can also be used but is not as heavy duty as a glitter glue and after a while the oils from your eyelid crease can cause the glitter to fall out or crease.
11. Banana Powder
This is similar to a yellow Colour Corrector Powder. It adds coverage to counteract dark circles and it is best used for medium to darker skin tones as it is a yellow powder, and used against light skin can cause your foundation to oxidise. You can purchase this either as either a pressed or loose product.
These products all have their benefits and could be a great addition to your kit! If you have these in your kit already, are you loving them? Are you not loving them? If you're keen to try them out, let us know how you go with them!
